Enlightened Asana: Bandhas - reservoirs of energy / whirlwinds of the subtle body.

Enlightened Asana Series - three hour workshops to delve deeper into our practice...
The orthodox understanding of bandha in the Sanskrit language means to bind. They are described as places for vital (Chi) energy collection within the body. However, this energy needs to do more than simply 'binding'. It needs to be moved within the body to facilitate the movement of Chi.
With the understanding that energy can only be trapped or bound in a circular container, we can draw parallels to the arches found within the human body. These arches being the receptors for bandhas. We can also understand these reservoirs of energy to be similar in structure to whirlwinds or cyclones. As energy / wind gathers, the outer rim moves downwards shooting the energy upwards. With both these concepts in mind and using the rebound force that is generated from 'rooting', we can understand a more logical application of bandhas to our practice.
Looking at different arches within the body, we will explore both classical bandhas and non-orthodox ones to facilitate movement in different asana, breathing techniques and cultivation of a greater awareness of Chi.
