The Thinking Body / The Breathing Body (Pranayama) / The Energy Body

It pulls all life up into the face of the philosopher, and sends it down into the legs of the dancer. A casual world over-emphasises the face. Memory likes to recall the whole body. It is not our parents faces that come back to us, but their bodies, in the accustomed chairs, eating, sewing, smoking, doing all the familiar things. To develop greater awareness, richness, fullness and consciousness in the body we need the whole body to 'think' (not just the head). The 'thinking' process needs to be invited into the whole body system. We need to 'think' with our feet just as much as our head. Applied to yoga asana (postures), we can cultivate a greater sense of lightness, centered-ness and completeness in both bodily feeling and isotonic and isometric actions. What elevates yoga asana from purely gymnastic, calisthenic and physical prowess is what goes on behind the scenes. How we see, hear, think and breath are just some of the actions that can determine where we place our awareness and sense of 'self', each having a consequence on the other.
As we progress with our practice and advance into more complex and challenging postures, the body needs to see beyond the eyes.
Throughout the morning we will explore a number of principles, practices and concepts to help cultivate 'The Thinking Body' – greater awareness and attention within the whole body. We will apply the learnt techniques to a range of classical yoga asanas, enabling us a deeper experience in the posture and an expanded perspective.

I practice yoga asana daily (between 2 to 4 hours) to really learn the essence of the posture".
