How meditation works

Meditation asks you to look within, to turn your attention and awareness to the inner world and landscape of your thoughts.

For many, life is lived mostly ‘out there’ in a world of sensory impressions and experience. So what do you find when we look within yourselve? The internal plane of the mind can be chaotic, the vacillation of thoughts this way and that, the mind in a constant state of chatter, liking this, not liking that, grasping at things.

This continual movement drains your ability to be still, to be present, to simply Be.

It clouds your discernment.

The idea behind meditation is to gain control over this internal world, to find balance and peace.

With meditation (as with all yoga practices) you work on yourself, the task at hand is you.

Dory Walker

Freedom is my motivation. Finding and deepening connection is at the heart of my practise and teaching. Nature is abundant, regenerates and gives. As part of nature I look to my yoga practise and teaching to allow abundant living, joyful giving and regeneration. It’s a journey. The reflection ‘Does a practise allow more space in my body, mind, emotions and energy’ underpins my approach. The passing of time and changing seasons offer a constant mirror so my practise and teaching can be in service of evolving freedom. Asana, pranayama, dharana practices and chanting are my main tools. I am a very proud mama of two incredible daughters.

”Both Rory and Dory are such exceptional teachers; their knowledge, wisdom and understanding (both of the anatomy of yoga and the philosophy) shines through”
Tabitha, Yoga Teacher

"To be guided along the path whilst connecting together in sangha finding our own way home is vital today. Thank you so much for being such knowledgeable and sincere guides offering what so many don’t”
Sona, Yoga Teacher
